Do you want to write a poem about Brussels?
Are you under 25 years old?
Then take part in the BeTalky Slam contest.

The poem can be a maximum of ten sentences, in French, Dutch, English or another language. Send us the poem by Monday, Friday 18, 2022 at the latest.

A jury will read all the poems and on World Poetry Day, March 21, 2022, the winner will be announced.

The winner will be invited to read his/her poem in front of all the members of the Brussels Parliament. The winning poem will then be displayed in the Parliament. Send your poem to: talk@betalky.brussels

T he jury

JOY, a Belgian of Italian and Burundian origin, whose real name is Gioia Kayaga Cizanye Frolli, grew up listening to Renaud, Brassens and then artists like Gaël Faye, Keny Arkana, Damien Marley, Protoje, and poetry enthusiasts that she meets on slam stages, or in the classrooms of the literacy and writing workshops that she leads. She received the "Paroles urbaines" award in 2013. She also produces musical projects that tour in music and poetry festivals around the world.

L aurence Vielle (Brussels, 1968) is a Belgian French-speaking poet and actress. She writes-says; for her, poetry is orality. She likes to say words, to make them sound, to chant them, to give them rhythm. She defines herself as a gleaner of words, the words of others and her own. These are her drums, she tries to tune her heart to them. She has received various awards for her writing and speaking work, and writes for the stage, for the radio, and always for the ear.

L isette Ma Neza ( Leiderdorp NL, 1998) studied film at the LUCA-School of Arts in Brussels. She emerged as the voice of a new literary generation when she won the 2017 Belgian Slam Poetry Championship; she did so as the first Dutch speaker, first woman, and first poet of color ever. In 2018, she became the runner-up in the world poetry slam in Rio de Janeiro. So far, she has only published her work on stage, solo or with her backing band. VRT has called her "our own Amanda Gorman."

Multilingual poet and doctoral student at KASK Antwerp Philip Meersman (Jette) pushes the boundaries of written and spoken poetry based on topical, socio-political and environmental principles. He performs worldwide, gives workshops in experimental, visual and performance poetry and since 2005 also creates immersive poetry performances. Besides his artistic career, Philip works as deputy head of department at the Cultural Service of the City of Brussels.

Rules of the slam contest be.talky

Art. 1 Het Brussels Hoofdstedelijk Gewest op initiatief van de Minister van de Brusselse Hoofdstedelijke Regering, belast met de Promotie van Meertaligheid en van het Imago van Brussel, organiseert een slamwedstrijd met als thema Brussel en meertaligheid.

Art. 2 Any resident of the Brussels Capital Region under the age of 25 may participate in the contest.

Art. 3 Elke deelnemer mag max. 1 origineel gedichten indienen dat geschreven is in het Frans, Nederlands en Engels (en mag woorden bevatten uit een andere thuistaal mits vertaling voorzien d.m.v. voetnoot in één van de drie hoofdtalen) dat niet eerder gepubliceerd werd, noch op het internet, noch in gedrukte vorm, noch oraal gepresenteerd tijdens een slam podium. De gedichten mogen niet bekroond, geselecteerd of genomineerd zijn in andere wedstrijden. Elk gedicht moet in een leesbaar elektronisch formaat (Open Office, Word, Pdf) worden ingediend en mag niet langer zijn dan 150 woorden en max. 10 regels.Het gedicht wordt ingediend onder een pseudoniem.

Art. 4 Deelnemers die onder meerdere namen inschrijven of zich op een of andere manier aan fraude of plagiaat schuldig maken, worden uitgesloten van de wedstrijd, ook bij vaststelling na de uitslag.

Art. 5 De gedichten dienen uiterlijk op 27 januari 2022 verzonden te zijn via mail naar talky@betalky.brussels met in de mail zelf vermelding van het gebruikte pseudoniem, de titel van het gedicht, naam, geboortedatum, klas, school, adres, telefoon, mailadres.

Art. 6 Uit de inzendingen worden max. 3 gedichten genomineerd.De winna(a)r(es)(sen) brengen in het Brussels halfrond hun gedicht tijdens een speciale zitting en deze gedichten zullen in het Brussels Parlement worden tentoongesteld.

Art. 7 De jury bestaat uit Laurence Vielle, JOY, Lisette Ma Neza en Philip Meersman.

Art. 8 De jury beoordeelt de gedichten anoniem en beslist autonoom over de uitslag. De uitslag wordt officieel bekendgemaakt op 21 maart 2022. De winna(a)r(es)(sen) worden persoonlijk vooraf verwittigd. Over de uitslag wordt niet gediscussieerd.

Art. 9 De Regering en het Parlement van Brussels Hoofdstedelijk Gewest hebben het recht alle gedichten te laten voordragen, te publiceren en tentoon te stellen in het kader van hun initiatieven, ook buiten de context van deze wedstrijd.

Art. 10 Door deel te nemen verklaart de inzender zich akkoord met het reglement.
